The variable stiffness Softshock mount delivers the combined requirements of low frequency noise reduction and low deflection. Both are requirements for railcar resilient floors.

Utilising rubber in shear and compression, the Softshock mount avoids the problems associated with rubber in compression.

For low loadings - when the railcar has few passengers - the mount has low stiffness characteristics. This gives a resilient floor with a low natural frequency, reducing the effect of low frequency noise and vibration in the range below 300Hz. For higher loadings - as passenger numbers increase - the mount has high stiffness characteristics which prevents the total floor deflection becoming excessive.
